Lauren Weedman has an incendiary wit, her performances always grounded in the most extreme and real characters. I really like this image for one of her first solo shows.

THEATRE PRODUCTION IMAGES

What does one do with all those bundles of old black and white pictures in plastic wrap at Goodwill Thrift Stores? Manipulate them into images for a spooky halloween show! Troy Mink used stories passed down through generations in backwood's hollers as content, compiled in many books by William Montell Lynnwood.

The second touring run of this critically acclaimed solo ukulele operetta. A very modern design take for a show about Vaudeville was best for a very modern take on the history. The design was also used for banners, ads, and other marketing materials.

LOGO
identity
Radial Theater Project is a production company that commissions playwrights to collaborate with specific actors throughout the writing process. This is the first time I designed a trial logo. Under a tight time-frame, the old logo was used for one project in 2012. This is the new and improved, and more well-loved version for 2013 and the future.

THEATRE PRODUCTION IMAGE

This image for a surreal and poetic play, produced in Seattle by theater simple was a tough one to get to. The tone of the play is abstract and juggles disparate qualities. We were all very happy with what came out of the cooker.

LOGOS & TRADEMARKS
identity, branding
The Sandbox Artist Collective is a collective of Seattle theater professionals who since 2007 have been collaborating, sharing resources, creating new work and supporting each other in the pursuit of making the art of performance in its many forms. They wanted something sporty, like a soccer badge, but I kept having fun finding gaming dice and optical illusions. They use them all in their branding.

BROCHURE

Mik Kuhlman asked me to take images from her first solo show and create a brochure as unique as her show.

PERFORMANCE CARD

theater simple curates this "arts buffet of ingeniously genre-defying artistry with seven distinct tastes each night inspired by slyly creative music, dance, burlesque, and theater, all grown in the Pacific Northwest." Couldn't have said it better myself.

ARTS FESTIVAL

The Seattle International Childrens Festival was bar none the best live performance festival in town for many years. I took over their visuals in the last years before they rebranded to Giant Magnet. It was this layout artist's dream challenge.

ARTS FESTIVAL
illustration | identity | publication
The "globalicious" orange juice container take on the identity for the Seattle International Children's Festival was a kluge of several graphic elements. First there was the globe logo, which was an altered evolution from a logo re-design I'd created a year before. Then came the catch phrase treatment into the logo. Then came the Sunny-D container.

AUCTION

A graphic designer parent is often called to task an auction or two over the school history of her kid. My daughters went to the best K-8 school in the world: Salmon Bay! I thought this was a pretty good idea and implementation of the Monopoly game theme.

I was contract designer at The Seattle Center for one year. When I first met them about doing the work, they turned me away because I didn't have a degree in graphic design. Three months later I got a call offering me the job. Turns out they tried two people with degrees and decided experience trumps diploma. It was a great gig, great people, and fun wrangling content from the various activities. After a year they decided to not advertise any more and took the graphics in house.

BASEBALL CARDS

This one harkens back to my days as lead designer for Seattle Mime Theatre. The Diamond Project was a large-scale theatrical event performed on baseball fields across the USA. One of my favorite pieces I did for them. Designed this on a Mac Classic with PageMaker and Photoshop, pictures scanned from actual negatives! Old school.
